Bill Shadforth's mother Edith had died when he was about 2 years old in Beechworth, Victoria. His father, Robert Shadforth later moved to Queensland. Ada Florence Mary Dobbyn was Edith's sister. Their father, Dr William Augustus Dobbyn had emigrated from Dublin and practiced in Wangaratta then Beechworth.
