Campbelltown Soldier WW1
HARTLEY JAMES STEWART
Hartley James Stewart Reg. No. 1288 was the son of John and Edith Stewart of Athelstone, South Australia. His place of birth is listed as Watervale, South Australia. He enlisted as a member of the 9th Light Horse Regiment, on the 1st 0f April 1916 he transferred to the 14th Australian Field Artillery Brigade. He was a gardener by occupation. In September 14th 1915, he embarked from Adelaide on HMAT Ballarat A70. He died on 23rd of August 1918 of a shell wound to the chest. He is buried at Daours Community Cemetery, Daours, Picardy, France. He was 23 years of age.
