JE Grant is my maternal grand father. I am the second child of his only child Helen Amelita Wyville Hayes nee Grant. His father was aDirector of the South Australia Company. He was sent to SA as a young man Studied at Roseworthy Ag College . The Great War saw him join the AIF in Adelaide. He was wounded twice . Returned to Adelaide married Mabel Sylvia Hunt of Myponga in 1921. Died in South Australia in 1974. He also served in the AIF in WW 2. At Keswick Barracks. My mother Helen married Gerald Hayes in 1946 .

Florence McDonald Tonkin the person who made an enquiry Concerning his wellbeing via the Red Cross may be a relative of JE grant 's future wife . Her name was Mabel Sylvia Hunt of Myponga SA. She was the youngest of 7 children and her brother may have married a Tonkin. I think Florence 's son could have joined up in Adelaide with JE grant.

I am the daughter of Helen and Gerald Hayes. I married Nicholas Mark Barnes In Adelaide in 1974. My grandfather JE Grant Died in Adelaide in 1974. He shared some stories of his life in Sussex as a boy . He was wounded at Ypres in WW1 . He had scars from gas gangrene on his legs. He remained an English gentleman although Living most of his adult life in South Australia .. A student at Roseworthy College , a wife who was a licensee of the Commercial Hotel at Two Wells and also a hotel at Coobowie.

My grandfather John Evelyn Grant was the third son of John Henry Grant a Director of the South Australia Company . I am related through my Mother Helen Amelita Wyvillle Hayes nee Grant. My Father was Gerald Hayes who married Helen in 1946i in Adelaide S A. My name is Geraldine Barnes nee Hayes. I married Nicholas Barnes in Adelaide in 1974.

Amend JE grant relationship to the sister of Mabel Sylvia Hunt Mabel Sylvia Hunt was to become the future wife of JE . One of her older sisters was Emily Victoria Hunt .She married William Thomas Pengilly . His Sister Florence McDonald Tonkin is the family friend referred to by the Red Cross. She also contacted the Red Cross in South Australia re her brother William Thomas Pengilly . I think William and JE enlisted together in Adelaide . Florence Tonkin may have lost her son Leland Charles Tonkin in WW one. I am the grand daughter of JE Grant. My mother was his daughter Helen Amelita Wyville Grant ? Married to my father Gerald Hayes in 1946 in Adelaide.

J E Family all resided in England. He arrived in South Australia under the auspices of his father John Henry a Grant Director of the South Australia Company. JH was a resident London with property in Kent and Sussex.JE was his third son by his second marriage. JE mother was Evelyn Grant nee Lesley born in Siddington Pickering North Yorkshire UK. JE I think was interested in farming property in the Fleurieu Peninsula SA. He came into contact with the family of thomas and Thirza Hunt of Yaccca Farm. He eventually married Mabel Sylvia Hunt . She was the youngest of 8 children. As A child I visited my great aunts and uncles who variously lived in Myponga ... Aunt Emily at a farm in Myponga . Uncle will at Aldinga Aunt Alice and others my grandparents at one stage lived at Christies Beach and owned 2dwellings in Forktree road Myponga where they stayed from time to time. She was related to the Pengilly family Farquar Pengilly was a brother -in-law . Sellicks Hill Willunga Goolwa were often visited. Uncle George also.

He married Mabel Sylvia Hunt of Myponga in 1921. Florence Tonkin was a relative by marriage of Mabel . Mabel's sister Emily Elizabeth Hunt married William Pengilly who I think was Florence's brother. My mothers cousin was Farquar Pengilly their son. I think Florence brother enlisted in the AIF as did JE. Grant . Her son Leland Charles Tonkin was a casualty of the Great War. John Evelyn was the third son of John Henry Grant aDirector of South Australia Company. He was sent to South Australia to seek opportunities in agriculture . Correction of relationship with J. E Grant. Florence's brother Farquar Gordon Pengilly married Emily Elizabeth Hunt of Myponga . J.E. Married Emily's sister Mabel Sylvia Grant nee Hunt. My second cousin Beatrice Pengilly was their daughter. She is listed on the Virtual RSL Memorial having served in the Army in WW Two.

Correction re BP war service .she served in the WAAAF not the Army. Married a RAAF member in 1946. She was known as "Betty". Engagement notice in the Adelaide Advertiser has her address as Millswood Estate and Myponga.
