Private Leslie Ray Hams was born at Jamestown, South Australia, on 22 April 1897. He enlisted at Oaklands on 20 January 1915 and served with the 10th Infantry Battalion in France. He was taken as a prisoner of war on 22 August 1916 during the Battle of Mouquet Farm and held at the Dulmen POW Camp in Germany. After the was he was repatriated and returned to Adelaide in 1919. He married Winifred Coleman on 5 June 1920 and died at Daw Park on 6 August 1969.
