Campbelltown Soldier WW1
ROBERT HOLLOW
Robert Hollow Reg. No. 1933 was the second son of the late Mr. W Hollow and Hanorah Knott, (formerly Hollow) of Athelstone South Australia. He was born in Broken Hill, New South Wales in 1881.
He enlisted in the 27th Infantry Battalion in Adelaide on 18th May 1915. He sailed from Adelaide on 26th August 1915 for Mudros. From Mudros he then proceeded to Alexandria in January 1916. In March of 1916 he left Alexandria for Marseilles. In January 1917 he was evacuated to England suffering from Trench Foot. After returning to France he was again wounded in action and gassed and returned to England for treatment. His wounding was a gunshot wound to the right buttock.
His sister Doris Knott of “Sea View” Athelstone wrote to the Red Cross enquiring as to the whereabouts of her brother, and also the extent of his injuries. After treatment in England he returned to Australia via S.S. Delta. He arrived back in Adelaide on the 5th March 1919, and his discharge was completed on 18th August 1919.
He died on the 9th September 1925 aged 34 years of age. His place of burial is the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide in the AIF section, LO Road 7N Site No 1.
