No. 2428 Private Octavius John Pyne, son of John Aloysius and wife Jane Elizabeth (nee Skipper), worked as a telegraph linesman in Strathalbyn, South Australia before he enlisted with the AIF on 25 March 1915 aged 24. He served with the 10th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement, and embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT A61 'Kanowna' on 23 June 1915. He died of wounds on 17 March 1917, aged 26, and was buried in the Bologne Eastern Cemetery in France.
